Never too old to learn: ABET par excellence

The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.

B.B. King

Adults of Mankosi and beyond are striving for a better future!

After a very open and honest meeting with our active community learners, our ABET programme is back on track.

The programme has an excellent curriculum provided by Media Works and sponsored by AgriSeta. Adults are taken step by step through basic literacy in English and Numeracy. Media Works trained 3 local facilitators to guide their peers through the educational programme that utilizes computers and workbooks.

The learning and access to information is enhanced with access to the library, discussions and workshops around important issues, like HIV/AIDS, women abuse, problem solving and other pertinent community concerns.

Currently we have 88 active learners and the number is increasing. After our 100% pass rate of the last exams, this can only be good news. According to Media Works Mdumbi Education Centre is one of their most successful training centres! The facilitators are doing something right and we are very proud of them!

We are also very excited about our new Computer Training Programme which will kick off soon. With the help of our new volunteer, Roger Hogg, our facilitators are being trained as we speak.

Next year we are hoping to adapt this project even more to the current local trends and needs, so watch this space...
